Getting married in the Barossa Valley
Updated by the Wedlii planning team
The Barossa Valley is one of South Australia's great wine regions, and it makes a beautiful place to say "I do". Think rolling vineyards, old stone cellars, long lunches and famous shiraz.
Many couples here celebrate at a winery, with the ceremony among the vines and dinner in a barrel room or on a lawn. Small towns like Tanunda, Nuriootpa, Angaston and Lyndoch keep everything close together.
The practical catch: summer days are hot and guests will be enjoying the wine, so you'll need shade, a heat plan and safe transport. Book early and the Barossa is easy.
What is the best time of year to get married in the Barossa Valley?
March and April are the best months to get married in the Barossa Valley. Days average 22–26°C and there are only 3 to 4 rain days a month. Bureau of Meteorology
Late spring is the next best choice: October and November average 22–25°C with 5 to 6 rain days. Summer is the driest season but also the hottest, with January averaging just over 30°C. Winter (June to August) is the wettest time, with around 10 rain days a month and days of 14–15°C. Bureau of Meteorology
| Season | Months | Average top temp | Average rain days per month | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | Sep–Nov | 18–25°C | 5–8 | Gets warmer and drier towards November |
| Summer | Dec–Feb | 28–30°C | 2–4 | Driest but hottest, plan shade |
| Autumn | Mar–May | 18–26°C | 3–7 | March and April are the sweet spot |
| Winter | Jun–Aug | 14–15°C | 10 | Wettest, cosy fireside weddings |
Whatever month you choose, plan for both rain and heat: a covered space, shade and cold water.
Where can you get married in the Barossa Valley?
Wineries are a favourite for Barossa Valley weddings, but you can also choose a vineyard estate, a garden rotunda or a country reserve.
- Wineries and cellar doors. Ceremonies among the vines, then dinner in a barrel room, cellar or marquee. Some wineries can host the ceremony, reception and catering all on site.
- Vineyard estates and stone homesteads. Private properties around Tanunda, Angaston, Lyndoch and the Eden Valley suit long-table dinners and relaxed, styled weddings.
- Town parks and reserves. Tanunda Rotunda sits in a garden setting and is for ceremonies only. Bethany Reserve has a rustic shelter with bench seating for about 50 people and an open fireplace. Barossa Visitor Centre
- Halls and restaurants. Angaston Town Hall seats up to 600 guests and has a kitchen. A cosy local restaurant also suits a small wedding lunch or dinner. Barossa Visitor Centre
Our planners recommend a winery or private venue if you want a full reception with catering, drinks and dancing in one spot.
Do you need a permit to get married in a park in the Barossa Valley?
Our planners recommend checking with The Barossa Council before you plan a ceremony in a council park or reserve. The council's number, (08) 8563 8444, is the listed contact for Tanunda Rotunda and Bethany Reserve, and Angaston Town Hall is booked through the council. Barossa Visitor Centre
| Place | Good to know | Who to contact |

- Ask about the rules early. Our planners recommend asking about guest numbers, alcohol, decorations and how much notice is needed before you lock in your date.
- Getting married at a winery? Wineries and estates are private venues, so you book directly with the venue. Ask them what's included and what approvals they have in place.
Conditions for council spaces can change, so get the current details in writing from whoever manages the spot.
How far ahead should you book a Barossa Valley wedding?
Our planners recommend locking in your winery and date 12 to 18 months ahead for a March, April, October or November Barossa Valley wedding, when the weather is mildest.
- 12–18 months out: choose your winery or venue, then secure your photographer and celebrant.
- 9–12 months out: reserve rooms or cottages for guests in Tanunda, Nuriootpa or Angaston, close to your venue.
- 6–9 months out: guest transport, florist, hair and makeup, and music. A shuttle bus keeps everyone safe after a day of wine.
- 3–6 months out: if you're using a council park or rotunda, confirm your booking and any conditions with The Barossa Council.
- 1–3 months out: confirm guest numbers, the run sheet, and your plans for rain or heat.
Flexible on dates? A Friday, Sunday or winter wedding by a cellar fireplace can open up more choice.
