Getting married in Noosa
Updated by the Wedlii planning team
Noosa is made for relaxed, sunny weddings. You have beaches, a calm river, coastal national park and a green hinterland, all within a short drive.
Picture saying your vows under the pandanus trees, then heading to a riverside restaurant or a hinterland estate. Guests can turn it into a holiday, with beaches, cafes and walks on their doorstep.
The catch: beach and park ceremonies are split between Noosa Shire Council and Queensland Parks and Wildlife, each with its own rules. Late summer is also wet, so pick your month with care.
What is the best time of year to get married in Noosa?
August and September are the best months to get married in Noosa. They have the fewest rain days of the year, about 5 to 6 a month, with mild days of 22–24°C. Bureau of Meteorology
September is also the driest month, averaging 58 mm of rain. October and November warm up to 26–27°C, with about 8 rain days a month. Summer (December to February) is the hottest time, with average tops of 28–29°C. February and March are the wettest months, each averaging over 230 mm of rain. Winter (June to August) brings mild days of 21–23°C. Bureau of Meteorology
| Season | Months | Average top temp | Average rain days per month | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | Sep–Nov | 24–27°C | 6–8 | September is the driest month |
| Summer | Dec–Feb | 28–29°C | 10–12 | Hottest months, February is wet |
| Autumn | Mar–May | 24–28°C | 10–14 | March is the wettest month |
| Winter | Jun–Aug | 21–23°C | 5–8 | Mild days, August has fewest rain days |
Even in August and September, a shower can still turn up, so book a ceremony spot or venue with shelter nearby.
Where can you get married in Noosa?
You can get married on a Noosa beach, by the river, in the national park or out in the hinterland. Noosa Shire Council alone has over 75 approved ceremony sites. Noosa Shire Council
- Main Beach Foreshore. Six named spots behind Noosa Main Beach, including Seahaven Grove, Casuarina Gardens and Laguna Grove. Note that Main Beach itself, between First Point and Middle Groyne, isn't available for ceremonies. Noosa Shire Council
- Beaches and the river mouth. For sand between your toes, council lists beach spots from Beach Access 12 to the Noosa River Mouth, Little Cove Beach, and the east coast beaches from Sunshine to Peregian. Noosa Shire Council
- Noosa National Park. Spots like Tea Tree Bay, Dolphin Point, Granite Bay, Fairy Pools and Noosa Lookout give you rugged coastal views. These need Queensland Parks and Wildlife approval, not council (see permits below). Noosa Shire Council
- Riverside and the hinterland. Noosaville and Tewantin suit relaxed riverside receptions. Inland, the hills and towns around Cooroy, Pomona and Lake Cootharaba offer farms, estates and quiet country settings.
Council ceremony sites are for the vows only, as alcohol can't be served there. Plan your celebration drinks at a restaurant or private venue. Noosa Shire Council
Do you need a permit to get married on the beach in Noosa?
Yes. Noosa Shire Council issues permits for beach ceremonies, but national park spots need approval from Queensland Parks and Wildlife instead. Noosa Shire Council
| Who manages it | Places | How to book |
|---|---|---|
| Noosa Shire Council | Council beaches, parks and foreshore, including Main Beach Foreshore, Little Cove, First Point and Noosa Woods | Check availability and book online, up to 14 months ahead |
| Queensland Parks and Wildlife | National Park venues, including Noosa Lookout, Tea Tree Bay, Dolphin Point, Granite Bay, Fairy Pools, Hells Gate and Alexandra Bay | Council says approval must come from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. Larger groups use the notification form on its organised events page |
- Council sites: permits are 3 hours on the Main Beach Foreshore and 2 hours everywhere else. Confetti can't be used, alcohol can't be served, and equipment is limited to what's listed in council's terms. A non-refundable fee applies. Noosa Shire Council
- Keep the flags clear. Beach ceremonies must keep the flagged bathing areas clear. Noosa Shire Council
- National park spots: Queensland Parks and Wildlife asks you to notify them if your group, including a wedding group, has more than 40 people in a day-use area or on a walking track. They'll email to say whether you need a permit. Allow up to 15 business days. Queensland Parks and Wildlife
- Shared, not private. A council booking means no one else books the same spot at the same time. But it doesn't give you exclusive use, so expect walkers and swimmers nearby. Noosa Shire Council
- Cars stay in the car park. Vehicles can't go into park or beach areas and must be parked in designated car parking spaces. Factor in a short walk for older guests. Noosa Shire Council
Read council's current fact sheet and terms and conditions, and check with QPWS for national park spots, before you lock in your date.
How far ahead should you book a Noosa wedding?
Our planners recommend booking your venue and date 12 to 18 months ahead for a Noosa wedding, especially if you want a date in the drier stretch from August to November.
- 12–18 months out: venue and date, then your photographer and celebrant. Book early if you want a date in the drier months.
- Up to 14 months out: your council beach or park site. Bookings open 14 months ahead, and you can only book one site in the shire per day. Noosa Shire Council
- 9–12 months out: guest accommodation. Noosa is a holiday town, so reserve apartments or holiday homes in Noosa Heads, Noosaville or Sunshine Beach early.
- 6–9 months out: flowers, hair and makeup, your musician, and getting guests between the ceremony and reception. If you've chosen a national park spot, contact Queensland Parks and Wildlife now too.
- 1–3 months out: confirm guest numbers, your run sheet and rain backup, and make sure you have your council permit in hand. Council sends approval notices within ten working days, and your booking is only confirmed once you have the approved permit. Noosa Shire Council
Open to a weekday or a winter date? Our planners suggest it if you need more choice of venues and suppliers.
